Victorian C. 1896 Three Tone Sterling Silver and Gold Double Heart Mizpah Brooch
This beautiful antique English brooch communicates a wonderful sentiment from over 100 year ago! Fully hallmarked for production in 1896, two hearts and joined together one reading "MIZPAH" surrounded by rose and yellow gold ivy leaves and the other heart with a rose gold border reading "THE LORD WATCH BETWEEN ME & THEE WHEN WE ARE ABSENT FROM ANOTHER" all set on a solid sterling silver brooch.
At a time when loved ones and couples could be separated for months or even years Mizpah was a popular sentiment, a Hebrew word meaning "watchtower" these tokens were exchanged between friends or lovers. The ivy too has symbolic meaning, symbolizing "I cling to thee".
