Victorian C. 1880 Banded Agate Locket Pendant
This fantastic antique, extra-large locket is truly reflective of the period it was created - the High Victorian. While we often associate the Victorian era with elaborate, ornate designs it was the late Victorian period in which designs known as High Victorian that truly took this idea to the limit. Think elaborate Gothic architecture, huge darkly carved furniture and massive dresses with multiple layers. This locket follows in that tradition.
Made at the end of the 19th century, circa 1880, it features a large central brown, white and black, banded agate set in a silver plated brass and surrounded by eight additional banded agate cabochons set in the perimeter and even an additional stone set in the bale! The reverse completely opens up, revealing a large locket compartment you can store your treasures.
