Georgian C. 1820 Flat Cut Garnet and Pearl Gold Mourning Sentimental Brooch

200 years of history in a wearable, beautiful item. This antique Georgian brooch dates from the early 19th century, circa 1820. Set with 14 flat cut and foil backed garnets in the Georgian style. These garnets surround a delicate border of natural seed pearls that have aged to a beautiful ivory-gray, these all surround a central locket panel, now vacant and backed in yellow gold. Originally this compartment may have been set with hair or other sentimental memento from a deceased or absent loved one. In the absence of photographs or easy way to communicate this was a touching way to feel connected to someone departed.
